The Federal High Court in Abuja has command the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately give back Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) for 90 days before the 2023 general elections.
And Justice Inyang Ewko give this order on Tuesday 22, 2022 as he said that it was constitutional responsibility of the electoral body to make adequate provision for the exercise in accordance with the Nigerian laws.
For her judgement, Justice Inyang Ekwo also direct (INEC) to ensure that all eligible Nigerians is not deprived of the opportunity to have their voters card for the general elections.
Because this judgement come after one Anajat Salmat and three others people sue INEC after they suspend the CVR. The complaint or plaintiff argue that the INEC has no right stop the voter card registration contrary that is what the constitution said.
They requested court to order INEC to resume the exercise or the registration in accordance with Nigerian law.
The main reason why INEC hesitate the registration
Because the INEC close the registration on 31 July after they first extend it. Then after the closure, they has said that they will not extend it again base on that the Nigerians has enough time to register for the voters card so those that have not done it should wait until after the 2023 general elections.
They also said that they close the registration because they need to focus on other things before any other further extension will give complete damage to the preparations and timetable of the 2023 general elections.
