Final year law student sue FG to court

One final year student in Benue State University has sue President Muhammadu Buhari and other over the ongoing ASUU strike.

Soohemba Agatha Aker fight one law suit before Federal High Court against President Muhammadu Buhari, and the 36 state governors over alleged poor handling of the dispute between Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

She was asking the court to stop the salaries and allowances of President Buhari, the 36 state governors, and all political office holders for the country until they final resolution and end of the strike.

Agatha was also asking for similar order against the Chief of Staff to the President, Secretary to the government, all the Senators and the members of the House of Representatives, all the Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, heads of parastatals and extra ministerial bodies of Nigeria, all the Vice Chancellors and the members of Senate of striking Universities, plus salaries and allowances of striking universities and all the ASUU members.

This was Nigeria government and ASUU was draging for each other for the strike matter.

ASUU embark on strike since 14 February, they are demanding for good paying and allowances.

On 6 October, the Academic Staff Union of Universities has said that they will take Federal Government to court sake of the two new academic universities union that government register.

Federal Government through the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige register two factional academic unions on Tuesday that cause plenty issues about how government is handle the ASUU strike.

The two new factional acadmic unions government register was the Congress of Nigerian Universities Academics (CONUA) and the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA).

Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, that register the unions on Tuesday has said that the t unions will exist with ASUU.

He also said that they has enjoy the rights and privileges that other academic unions for tertiary institutions has.

Meanwhile Counsel to ASUU was Femi Falani (SAN) has said that the registration of CONUA and NAMDA was illegal.

‘The government infraction my right to education’

Soohemba Agatha Aker has said every Nigeria students has the right to sue the government especially when they infringement on their right to good education.

“It was the fundatamental right of every Nigerian students after they had fufil all their obligations to sue the authorities that infringement on their right to education, according to the law.

Aghatha further to elucidate elucidate more;

“The government has infraction my right to education by not fulfilling their own right as a government to make sure that I have an uninterrupted and fair education.

“Especially when I as a student, I hadn’t fulfill my own obligation within the unversity.”

In addition, the government is not showing any seriousness to resolve this issues of ASUU.”

Agatha was the student Union president in her school, has said that she is currently affected by the ASUU strike.

She is fighting the fundamental right enforcement suit as they mark as FHC/ABJ/CS/1684/2022, for hersef on behalf of all students of public institutions that is also affected by the nationwide stike by ASUU.

The Final year law student has said from now, they never assign this case to any judge but they her wait for the process to begin.

Why ASUU is still on Strike

ASUU currently on strike for more than eight months now.

The public universities lecturers was demanding for the implementation of one agreement that the federal government sign with them since 2009 plus other demands.

One of the major issue that stop the negotiation between government delegates and ASUU was payment platform.

ASUU insist that government must pay them salary.

The ASUU president was Victor Emmanuel Osodeke has said that the National Information and Technology Development Agency (NITDA) whose suppose conduct integrity test on the University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) has abandon it even after they upgrade the payment platform.

But Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige has said that ASUU try prolong the strike by making negotiation impossible.

He has elucidate to them that why they insist on UTAS even when NITDA has failed integrity test and people can fraud the platform that lead to huge amount of money.

The rest of their demands was with 2009 agreement ASUU sign with federal government but ASUU said that the government still working on this matter since then.
